Roast Pumpkin, Spicy Tomato Sauce

Butternut squash & hot tomato SalsaIt’s funny how you grow into food. As a kid I reviled squash in all its incarnations, but now Laksh and I eat it often. A tender, sweet butternut squash (often just called pumpkin in the UK) is excellent in soups and curries, or even roasted and served as the center of a meal as in this recipe from The Kitchen Diaries: A Year in the Kitchen with Nigel Slater. Incidentally, The Kitchen Diaries is one of our absolute favorites; Nigel’s recipes are simple, seasonal, delicious, and inspiring. While he pitches this as a warming winter dish, to me tomatoes are the epitome of summer, and with the weather we’ve been having we were pleased to find both in our organic box delivery this week.

Farewell London

Farewell Drinks Camino Bar

We have just spent our last weekend in London-and what a great weekend it was! Lots of fun, friends, food and even some sunshine. We did a lot of our favourite London things including coffee, lunch and chocolate brownies at Borough Market, a visit to the Tate Modern and a walk along the south bank, cocktails at a funky new bar in Kings Cross (Camino), a lazy lunch at a gastropub (the Formosa dining room), drinking Monmouth Coffee and eating Neal’s Yard cheeses in Covent Garden, a picnic in the park, and lots and lots of laughs with all our great friends. London is an amazing city and we are both sad to be saying goodbye – there is always something to do and new places to discover. “Continue reading” to see pictures from the weekend.
